Individual Sessions

Individual sessions, in person or by phone, can support you in using mindfulness to find greater well-beng, address specific life issues, have a meditation practice, develop self-compassion and to work with things like pain, anxiety, anger, depression, chronic illness and other sources of stress. Below are some of the applications and benefits as well as information about what sessions may include.


Applications and Benefits 
of Individual Sessions:
  • Use mindfulness skills you have already developed to address specific life situations.
  • Learn how to develop a mindfulness meditation practice and have the support to keep it going.
  • Address blocks to having a daily practice and work through them.
  • Learn how to have a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
  • Recover a sense of meaning and purpose.
  • Support yourself in sticking to your goals.
  • Use mindfulness to improve relationships and change old patterns.
  • Address stress in the workplace.
  • Work with insomnia.
  • Learn how to use or deepen your ability to use LovingKindness meditation to develop a sense of inner freedom, spaciousness, and self-compassion.
The kinds of things that can be covered in individual sessions:
  • An in depth assesment of current stressors and effective and ineffective coping strategies.
  • Developing a personal approach that is supported by CD's and home assignments.
  • Guided mindfulness meditation (sitting meditation, body scan, yoga, awareness of breathing, lovingkindness meditation.)
  • Suggestions for mindful behavior changes regarding diet, exercise and lifestyle modifications oriented toward stress reduction.
  • Stress reduction counseling facilitates the use of the wisdom of the body and the present moment to achieve enhanced well-being but isn't psychotherapy.
Cost: A one-hour session is $70

ABOUT DENISE DEMPSEY:


Denise is a Stress Reduction Consultant and Educator located in Davis, CA.

Denise has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction classes since 2003. She is a credentialed practitioner with Sutter Center for Integrative Holistic Health in Davis and a co-founder of the Davis Holistic Health Center. Denise studied under the direction of Jon Kabat-Zinn, creator of the nationally acclaimed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program and has received advanced teacher training through the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts. She has a degree from UC Davis in Human Development, a background in experiential education and completed a two year training in the Hakomi Method of Body-Oriented Psychotherapy. She is also a Certified Massage Therapist and Reiki practitioner and has a private practice.  Studying meditation and yoga since she was 10 years old, Denise completed yoga teacher training through the Ashtanga Yoga Fellowship in 1994 and has studied vipassana and zen meditation with various teachers.
