WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is the energy that makes the universe function in all its perfection. This is the way it is described in the centuries old practice that arose out of ancient, pre-buddhist, Japan when healing methods were still being passed on as part of an oral tradition. It made its way to the West, teacher to teacher, finally arriving as a common healing practice found in communities across the country and throughout the world.
Reiki is considered the subtlest and most highly refined of all the energies in the human system whereby the ordinary energies of the body are transformed into pure vitality. This type of highly refined energy enhances spiritual awareness and by raising vitality improves physical, mental and emotional functioning.
Sessions facilitate healing by assisting the energy body to find balance. Done by placing the hands on the client’s fully clothed body in various positions, generally starting at the head, sometimes clients will feel a sensation of heat, electricity, pulsation or other energy and feel very relaxed.
After a reiki session a client will generally feel balanced, relaxed, at peace, energized or just very comfortable. Getting a reiki session is like taking a mini-vacation and it can be much like a mental/spiritual and emotional detox.

For relieving muscle tension, improving circulation, and reducing emotional and physical stress, massage therapy can't be beat.

How Massage Heals(Article, The Week, Feb. 24, 2012)
Getting a massage is more than just a luxurious way to relax. It also changes the way our genes behave and contributes to muscular healing, new research has found. Scientists had 11 male volunteers ride stationary bicycles until they were exhausted. They then massaged one of each volunteer’s thighs for 10 minutes and took biopsies from both legs. In samples from massaged muscles, they found that genes linked to inflammation and soreness were three times less active than they were in those from the untreated legs. The massages also caused a 30 percent increase in a gene that helps muscle cells create mitochondria – cellular organs that produce energy – potentially boosting muscle recovery. Previous studies have suggested that massage can reduce stress and discomfort, and scientist weren’t sure how it worked – or weather its effects were purely psychological. The new study underlines the practice’s dual therapeutic benefits of repairing muscles and reducing pain. ”With massage,” Mark Tarnopolsky a professor of medicine at McMaster University in Ontario, tells The New York Times, it seems you can have your cake and eat it too.”

In addition to her work as a stress reduction instructor, she has been practicing hands on healing to restore the energies of the body for over 20 years. She began studying acupressure and massage techniques with certification in Touch For Health in 1978 and continued studying laying on of hands and healing through the present day. She became a Certified Massage Therapist through the Davis Massage Institute and a Reiki Master through the International House of Reiki. She is highly skilled at helping people to find their way to greater balance and wholeness.
